We are going to have a team of players that is proud to represent Cape Town - Simon Katich
MI Cape Town Captain Rashid Khan says his team is excited about the opening game against Paarl Royals in the SA20 at Newlands in Cape Town tomorrow, January 10th. While head coach Simon Katich also revealed how the players prepared for every scenario during the pre-season practice session and left no stone unturned to break into the playing eleven in the opener.
The former Australia cricketer said, "The boys have had four magnificent days of training at Newlands. A couple of days at the center wickets scenarios. The last two nights have been some practice matches against some local boys. The boys have been excellent in their attitude, approach and preparations. So, it's been a big four days for them both physically and mentally because they are all excited about this big tournament and impress everyone here at MI Cape Town, and obviously, force their name in the first team.”
Throwing light on the brand of cricket MI Cape Town will be playing in the tournament, Katich said, “What we are going to promise to the fans is that we are going to have a team of players that is proud to represent Cape Town. We want to play an aggressive and attractive brand of cricket. But we also know that the conditions sometimes don't always allow that to happen, so we are going to play smart cricket. I think it's trying to find that balance between the entertainment part of the game, which plays a big part in T20s, but then also the strategy side which is going to ensure that we have a big advantage of playing at home.”
On the eve of the game, MI Cape Town Captain Rashid Khan said that he's aiming to put his best foot forward with the rest of his teammates at Newlands, Cape Town.
Speaking about his and his team's preparations for the opening game, the Afghan spin sensation said, "Yes, it's only been a couple of days since I've been here. I haven't had a full-team practice, but I am Looking forward to knowing others better. It's going to be an exciting next few weeks for me as a captain. There will be a lot of things that I will learn about captaincy. There will be tough challenges on the way, but that's what cricket is all about. We have a quality side, and I will learn from every member of this side. We, as a team, are looking forward to the opening game and starting on a positive note."
