Can I smell an Auction?

Indeed, and that’s precisely why we’re here. Season 4 of the SA20 is here and we are set for a bit of a rejig. This is a mega auction, and as the defending champions, we are super excited about building our team of superstars that will help us bring back our crown to the Mother City. 

Okay, I’m excited already! When and where is it happening?

September 9, 2025 in Johannesburg, starting at 13:30 SAST. Richard Madley, the GOAT auctioneer would be conducting proceedings with his gavel. 

Who have MI Cape Town retained and how many slots remain?

A total of seven players have been retained/pre-signed. Ryan Rickelton (retained), George Linde (retained), Corbin Bosch (retained), Rashid Khan (retained), Trent Boult (retained), Nicholas Pooran (pre-signed), Kagiso Rabada (wildcard). 

This leaves us with a maximum of 12 slots remaining to be filled, with a maximum of four overseas players and two under-23 players.

So what do we need and how much money do we have in the purse?

MI Cape Town have retained a large chunk of the core players from the winning squad of season 3. With 11.5million Rand still left in the purse, we need to fill up a large chunk of our batting order.

What’s the under-23 rule?

Each team would need to have at least two under-23 players within their ranks. We won’t be having the Rookie Draft this year. 

Got it! What’s going to be the day’s run-order?

A total of 550 players have registered for the Auction. There are three Marquee sets comprising of seven players each, followed by two sets of batters, fast bowlers, spin bowlers, wicket-keepers and all-rounders. Once done, we would move into an express auction round where the players unsold in the first round could re-enter potentially as well. The players have selected reserve (base) prices for themselves as follows: 200000 Rand, 500000 Rand, 1000000 Rand and 1500000 Rand.
