PCvMICT report: A complete smash-a-thon and WE’VE SEALED A TOP TWO BERTH!

By MI Emirates Media

“So happy with the way we played. Especially having those couple of tough years and then coming back and the way everyone played was pleasing.”

Rashid Khan was all of us at the end of the game. 2023 and 2024 have been difficult seasons. This qualification into the play-offs, and to go a step further and secure a berth in the top two has been something we’ve manifested all along. We’ve done it through an epic win over the Pretoria Capitals where our batters just out-batted them all along.

The run-fest that never seemed to stop

Rassie van der Dussen: 30 runs | 20 balls | 1 four | 3 sixes

Ryan Rickelton: 22 runs | 13 balls | 4 fours | 1 six

Reeza Hendricks: 77 runs | 44 balls | 4 fours | 5 sixes

Colin Ingram: 16 runs | 12 balls | 2 fours | 1 six

Dewald Brevis: 73 runs | 32 balls | 6 fours | 6 sixes

That should tell you the story. It was a smash-a-thon that just didn’t stop in the first innings. Not until MI Cape Town ran out of deliveries, ending with 222/3 in their 20 overs.

DB and his maximums

Young Dewald Brevis walked into bat in the ninth over, and wasted no time in getting in. The fourth ball he faced a monstrous six. And they kept flowing, to all parts of the ground in a display of sensational clean hitting.

 Regular wickets puncture Capitals’ chase

The Pretoria batters got starts, hit a few big ones too, but MI Cape Town’s bowlers kept getting regular breakthroughs to ensure they were always well behind the asking rate. Trent Boult, as always, struck in the powerplay, Corbin Bosch and Rashid Khan chipped in with two wickets each. In the end, the mountain of 223 was too steep for the Capitals to climb.
