Oh, didn’t we need this. It’s been three seasons in the making. And it feels just incredible to hear this. Let’s say it loud enough for everyone to hear: MI Cape Town, the 2025 SA20 Champions!!

“Very happy. Last year and the year before we were at the bottom of the table. Topping the table this year and winning the final feels great. Winning six games with a bonus point was unbelievable. Shows how everyone contributed to the win. Credit goes to each and every one. The support and the way the Head Coach, Robbie (Peterson), kept the dressing room was incredible,” said Rashid Khan, the victorious skipper at the post-match press conference shortly after lifting the title. 

Trent Boult wrote himself into history books with this feat as well of winning a title with all four teams, Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020, MI New York in MLC 2023, MI Emirates in ILT20 2024 and now with MI Cape Town in SA20 2025. A powerplay wicket was almost a guarantee with him around. 

“Obviously very excited to get an opportunity to come to this part of the world. It’s a proud sporting nation and an exciting place to play cricket. Great way to top off the season. The boys have fought hard and deserve it,” Boult said. 

Head Coach, Robin Peterson, has been with the team for the last three years, and he knows the disappointment that came over the last two years. In true Robbie fashion, he scripted a turnaround. It really was one. 

“Every time you are involved with MI, you are expected to win,” he said. “In the first two years, we tried our best but things didn’t work out. Bringing Rash (Rashid) back, bringing (Trent) Boulty here, made a huge difference. The experience and a couple of fresh faces is just amazing how it changed the environment. MI is a proud franchise,” he said. 

The party has only begun. Cape Town, you have another glittering piece of silverware to an already rich sporting history. Newlands, with sellout after sellout, you’ve been absolutely wonderful. Let’s rejoice. This is MI city, this is MI team, We are MI Cape Town.
