FAQs: SA20 2024 and MI Cape Town
** Drumrolls ** It’s officially Blue and Gold time. It’s been a year in the waiting, in the making, and MI Cape Town have been hanging in there patiently. It’s time to unleash our roar. This is MI Team. This is MI City. This is MI Cape Town. Here’s everything you need to know about the SA20 and our team ..
Woah, what's starting?
The SA20 is back. Six teams, six proud South African cities, and one coveted prize. The second season is here after what was well, a heartbreak for us in 2023. Block your calendars from January 10 to February 10 .
Okay, recap the 2023 season for us please!
It started off well actually, with MI Cape Town winning their first game against the Paarl Royals, thanks to Dewald Brevis’ unbeaten 70. Alas, that, the reverse fixture against Paarl, and a game against JSK were the only three wins we could manage amidst some heart-wrenchingly close losses.
Who’s playing then? What’s the format?
Six teams – MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Durban’s Super Giants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape – will compete in a home and away format, with each of them locking horns twice through the league. Here’s the change though: the top four teams on the points table will move into the play-offs, followed by the final, a departure from the semi-final arrangement last year.
Tell me more about MI Cape Town please
By the backdrop of the stunning Table Mountain, MI Cape Town, a sister franchise of the Mumbai Indians #OneFamily, call the Newlands Cricket Ground their home. In front of the Cape Town Faithful, a loyal and loud army of fans behind the team, they are set to be led by the MI Legend, a five-time IPL winner, a two-time CLT20 winner, an MLC winning captain, the Llord, Kieron Pollard!
And there’s no shortage of firepower here, with DB, Rassie van der Dussen, Liam Livingstone and a host of other young South African batters just tonking them big, to be followed by the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Olly Stone Sam Curran, George Linde and Beuran Hendricks just ripping poles out.
I’m already excited. When’s it starting? When are we playing? What are the timings?
Save the dates because we have an action-packed set of games coming up for you … And if you happen to be watching it from India or the eastern part of the globe, don’t forget to bring your favourite midnight snack because we are going to have to stay up late with these timings.
