#DSGvMICT Report: Sensational Rickelton, but undone by some rain and Klaasen

By MI Cape Town Media

It was right at the knife’s edge. 31 runs off 21 balls, four wickets in hand. It was anybody’s game. A couple of dots, a wicket, and we’d have snuck into DSG’s tail. Alas, we aren’t to have the end we’d hoped for, and to make it even more frustrating, it was the rain and the DLS that spoilt our party. Here’s now it went ..

No time wasted: Rickelton goes bang bang

If stamping your authority and announcing your arrival had a face, it was Ryan Rickelton’s tonight. An 82-run opening stand with Rassie van der Dussen in just 7.3 overs, a 51-ball showcase of some of most brutal strokes as he powered six fours and six sixes in his knock of 87 to set the platform for MI Cape Town to explode at the death. And boy, explode we did.

Polly’s clock turning back moment

Okay, we need to stop this expression of Kieron Pollard rolling back the years. He’s been doing this for a living, and he couldn’t have found a better way to stamp his SA20 debut, plundering the death bowling for a 14-ball 31 to get MI CT past the 200-run mark.

Trademark KG, trademark opening burst

New ball, same old thing. Kagiso Rabada ran in, got the better of the dangerous Quinton de Kock in his first over, and pegged the Supergiants back. And later on when Heinrich Klaasen had gone on a rampage, he returned to deceive him and get the game back in the balance

Rain, rain go away

It wasn’t to be. Our chants, our prayers, our rain-sending-away dance didn’t seem to work, as the showers refused to die down, and DSG bagged four points on the basis of them being ahead on the DLS par score. Never mind, it’s in the MI family genes to come back hard after losing their first game, and trust MI Cape Town to be no different here, folks!
