“Come back to South Africa”: Pollard reveals motivational message from….
Mumbai Indians. MI Emirates. MI New York. MI Cape Town. Come Thursday (January 11), Kieron Pollard’s would have ticked the last box as well. It’s a proper love story. And although he admits he’s in the “twilight of his career”, just the promise of having our Llord out there in the Blue and Gold is assurance enough.
Robin Peterson, the title-winning coach with MI New York in the MLC had seen Pollard from close quarters. And in some Ben Stokes style, sent out a text message.
“Come back to South Africa”.
“Yeah, to be honest, he did. He did and I had the privilege of working with him MLC in America. He was like ‘come back to South Africa’. And here I am sitting in front of you guys and looking forward to a tournament that everyone has highly spoken about. It looked pretty exciting on television. So, looking forward to having a good season," Pollard said at the SA20 pre-season captains’ press conference.
"I have played a lot of cricket with Robin. He is pretty cool in terms of how he goes around. He believes in individuality rather than big groups. He has casual chats and believes in them and they tend to get more out of individuals. It has worked for us in America. He has been around the MI set-up for a period as well. His knowledge of the local South African players is high as well.”
It's a tried and tested combo, and more importantly, a winning one. MI Cape Town begin their campaign with a couple of away games, first at the Kingsmead Oval against Durban’s Super Giants, followed by the big one against Jo’burg Super Kings at Wanderers, before coming home to take on the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
Bring it on!
