The date: 9^th September 2025. The event: The Betway SA20 Season 4 Auction. The venue: Johannesburg. 

Prior to the auction, the franchises are permitted no more than 6 retentions or pre-signed players comprising of a maximum of 3 overseas players and 3 South African players. This means a minimum of 72 players would be up for grabs. 

The team composition, i.e. the split between the local and overseas players is set to remain the same, with every squad allowed a maximum of  seven overseas players and a minimum of 11 South African players. The Wildcard rule remains the same as well, with the teams allowed to sign one Wildcard player to each squad. The Wildcard player can be a South African or overseas player, and their League fee falls outside of the salary cap.

Each of the six franchises would have R41-million in their purse this season to make up their squads. In a new move, the Right To Match (RTM) cards are set to be introduced this season. This allows a Franchise the opportunity to match a winning auction bid on a player who played for that team in Season 3 and retain his services for Season 4. Each team will have a limited number of RTM cards to use, depending on the number of South African pre-auction player retentions they use.

In another significant change from last year, there will no longer be a Rookie Draft, instead, teams must sign a minimum of two Under-23 players in their final 19 player squads.
